PRESS RELEASE: DAP Subang Jaya Stand On the Taman Subang Ria’s Lake Gardens issue.
Recent development in Subang Jaya has revealed the true colours of Datuk Lee Hwa Beng’s leadership and his administration. We at DAP still maintain our status quo that Datuk Lee as always is the one who creates a problem and then tries to solve it. The so called ‘struggle’ between Datuk Lee and the authorities will eventually lead to the matter being forwarded to the Menteri Besar (as usual) for further discussion. Not long after that, the people of Subang Jaya would have lost another inch of their rights. After all can he afford to offend his boss?
The are so many other incidents that have such sad ending. Take for instance the assessment tax and the land title issue. Prior to the general election, Datuk Lee has promised that should the residents vote for him; he would solve the problem for them. Datuk Lee is indeed a brave person to have promised such heroic deeds. Curious to know about what actually took place DAP has gone down to the grassroots level to have a better understanding of the whole situation. In the end we found out that Datuk Lee has a part in most of the meetings (to decide whether the assessment tax should be imposed or not, the land title should be given or not) and is directly connected to the problem arising. In fact he is the one responsible to give the go ahead signal to implement those exercises.
We at DAP cannot understand why Datuk Lee is so interested in the lake gardens development while other problems such as the severe floods that took place whenever there is a heavy downpour and the problem of only having one form six class in the whole of Subang Jaya was not look into. We are even more puzzled when Datuk Lee said that he has yet to make a stand. What happened to the promise in 1998? We are sure the residents can be the judge to this.
The question that is facing us now is; is it worth it to give up such fine piece of green spot to the hunger and thirst of development? What will be the repercussions? Did Datuk Lee take into consideration of the Subang Jaya’s residents recreation haven? The government should strive to achieve sustainable growth instead of depleting our greens unnecessarily.
Initially we would have called for a careful environment study to be carried out before such move was taken. However since it has been settled in 1998 it should remained that way. DAP strongly supports the signature drive to stop the destruction of the lake gardens and will fully support the residents in this matter.
Let the lake garden status quo remained as it is and Datuk Lee’s status quo as a ‘problem creator then try to solve it later’ be changed instead.
